What Most Companies Forget When Hiring Foreign Workers?

The five of them landed in Belgrade, tired, but excited. Behind them were days of travel, paperwork, packing, and emotional goodbyes to their families. In front of them was an opportunity, a new life, but in an unfamiliar country where they only knew a few names from online correspondence.
They arrived in shorts and t-shirts, coming from warm climates, and were unprepared for the strong east wind and five-degree temperatures. At the airport, they were met by the agency coordinator, accompanied by a translator and all the necessary documentation.

As soon as the coordinator saw them at the airport, his first question was whether they had brought any warm clothes. They hadn’t, they didn’t expect it to be so cold. So before taking them to their accommodation, he made sure they got sweatshirts, jackets, and warmer pants.

The first step wasn’t toward the factory or the workplace. It was, and always will be, toward understanding.

For many employers, a foreign worker is simply a solution to a staffing shortage. But for those individuals, coming to Serbia is much more than a job opportunity. It’s a step into the unknown.
